2022 Southern Area Engine Academy: November 12-18th at Wekiva Springs State Park in Apopka, FL

The Florida Park Service Fire Management Program is pleased to announce that the Southern Area Engine Academy will be held in person this year, November 12-18^th at Wekiva Springs State Park in Apopka, FL. The class is taught by instructors through lectures, visual aids and field exercises. There will be a focus on teaching the application of hydraulics, engine operations, water-handling equipment, engine tactics and wildland fire safety. This class is highly labor intensive with about 1 instructor for every 2.5 students. It is important to note that all cadre and students will follow current COVID-19 protocols.

Cost: $500 (registration fee)
Nomination Deadline: October 5, 2022

There will be course pre-work which is approximately 8 hours of readings and study for the S211 class prior to attendance at the academy. All students are required to stay on site for the duration of academy. Some students will be required to bring engines to the class. A total of 15+ engines (inter-agency) are needed to run engine academy. Arrangements for engines will be made after students are selected.

Student nominations forms should be completed online no later than October 5th.
Student selections will be made by October 16^th and then a selection letter with pertinent course information will go out.
